Hello there! It’s been too long since my last post (over a month!!). I’ve been so busy at school and the blog has been pushed aside until now.
Here’s a peek of what I’ve been up to the last two months:
I was part of the team designing and building the fair stand of Aalto University for Stockholm Furniture Fair. We chose to exhibit our steel chairs in a black stand on a lit black box with an acrylic top. Very dramatic and minimalistic.
I’m currently studying in Aalto University of Arts, Design and Architecture in Master studies, first year. Our first assignment last autumn was to design and make a general purpose metal chair. We could only use three type on steel material: 10x10mm pipe, 10x20mm pipe and 4mm steel rod. All of these are very weak materials as is, so we had to figure out how to make a chair out of them that is sturdy and stable.
My chair design was very simple and modern. The basic idea is to cross the steel rods to form the seat and the back and then put it in a very simple steel frame. We made the chairs ourselves with some welding help from our workshop masters and then chromed the finished chairs. They really stand out in the fair since most of the things on show were made of wood.
If you are around Stockholm area, you can still see our stand on Friday tomorrow and on Saturday in the Greenhouse in Stockholm’s Fair Centre.
